Discussion of the Month

What is your perception of the Newport Town council? How can it be improved? Do you understand what the Town Council do?

Have your say now!

WELCOME to the website of the Newport Rural Conservatives Branch in Shropshire.

The Branch exists to extend the work of the Conservative Party in the four wards within Newport, Shropshire and in the two wards, - Church Aston / Lilleshall and Edgmond / Tibberton / Sambrook, outside Newport.

There is a smaller Newport Town branch, which concentrates exclusively on fund-raising. The intention of the Executive is that at some point in the near future the two branches will be merged.

Since the Newport Rural Conservatives Branch was formed in 2006, we have had success in elections, capturing the three wards that we did not hold already on Telford and Wrekin Borough Council, and winning six of the 12 seats on the Newport Town Council. Councillor Dan Ashley (Newport North), Councillor Eric Carter (Newport East), Councillor Adam Stanton and Councillor Roy Scammell (Newport West), Councillor Adrian Meredith and Councillor Tim Nelson (Newport South).

We have a good mix of age and experience among our councillors, and can make a significant contribution to the two councils, but we are always glad to hear from anyone who would like to stand for election in the name of the party in the future.

We have an ambitious programme, involving this website and other means, to keep residents informed of what is happening and to ask for resident concerns and views on the whole range of council matters.

These are our objectives: We reaffirm our wish to be

>> APPROACHABLE - available to all electors, consulting and listening to their views.

>> ACCOUNTABLE - repaying electors’ trust and using their resources wisely.

>> TRANSPARENT - helping residents to know what has been decided, hiding nothing.

>> HONEST- giving reasons for any decisions, with no false claims or cover up.

>> OPEN - willing to work with all councillors and others, for the good of  our town.
